Choosing Pain Over Feeling Nothing

"It's better to feel pain than nothing at all. The opposite of love is indifference"

- The Lumineers.

Would you choose pain over feeling nothing? Leo Buscaglia, author/lecturer, once said he would. I agree. The emotional pain we feel is because we have passion, because we love fiercely, because people and things in life are important and mean something to us. If a relationship ends in pain, would you wish you’d never have loved or cared?

Not me! Everyone and everything in my life, those I’ve met on the paths I’ve taken, have touched my life in one way or another and brought me to where I am today. Certainly, some experiences have been like a pothole or maybe a bump on the road but have made me wiser, stronger for having navigated them. Others have been on lovely smooth pavement, the joys from which have made those roads well worth traveling. But as we continue along our pathways—twisting, turning, curving; uphill, downhill—I’d never want to miss an opportunity to take a sudden turnoff to love, explore, and live! Would you?
